GOD RULES IN HUMAN GOVERNMENTS - 25/01/2013

Today's topic as provided by Pastor E. A. Adeboye in Open heavens Devotional (Adeboye, 2014) is "GOD RULES IN HUMAN GOVERNMENTS"

The memory verse was taken from  Daniel 4:17: “To the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men” , the Bible Reading is given as 2 Chronicles 20:5-6 and Bible in one year is Hebrews 1:1-5:9 and Pslam 23

The message is as quoted below. Feel free to discuss the lessons learnt from today's study and let's shame the kingdom of darkness

"God rules in the affairs of men. There is no government of this world outside the control of the sovereign Lord. Political scientists may try to predict future events that will occur in a government, but the most accurate Information about a government lies in the hands of God. In an ideal democracy, people assume elective positions based on the votes of the masses. The constitutions of such countries spell out how long a government should stay in power before a change can take place by the same electoral process. The sovereign Lord does not require such procedures to change any government. e fact remains that He is in charge in the affairs of all nations. Wise people would therefore pray and commit their government into God's hands. Those who think they can carry on without Him have realised too late that there is someone above and over all the governments of the world. A good example of God's intervention in human government is the case of Egypt. They were at one time the strongest of all governments on earth and so controlled to large extent, the affairs of the known world. The sovereign Lord intervened in the dream of Pharaoh King of Egypt. He had a dream that troubled his spirit. The meaning and application of this dream was beyond what the magicians could look into by their usual consultation with the powers of darkness. Sometimes, God conceals a secret for a divine purpose to be fulfilled. God revealed the secret to Joseph who interpreted the dream. This feat earned him the position of the prime minister. Ordinarily, the slave boy could not have become so powerful by human manipulation.

Prayer for those in Government is very good and clearly recommended. God expects His children to pray in this direction: that He may control the affairs of their government and that He may get the attention of those in power. This is why Paul in 1 Timothy 2:1 -2 advised that we should pray for public office holders, that God may use them to maintain peace in our environment.

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead  quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”

We must cultivate the habit of praying for our governments if we want God to rule in our affairs for justice, peace, progress and prosperity"

Our action point for today is to decide to spend time praying for the various governments of our country and for those in position of authority.

We pray that God will reign supreme in the lives of the Government of Nigeria and other nations of the world

  2. Rulers among men rule, restrained by certain laws. But Jehovah rules unrestrained in righteousness. May earthly rulers lead with the conciousness of their subordinate role to the only one and true Potentate!
    1 Timothy 6:15b who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

  5. This ideology is thoughtful and if we need to live in peace we need to pray for the government. The devil is wrestling to takeover and control the government just like he attempted on Jesus.

One more thing is missing here : the daily bible reading

  11. Thanks for the exhortation. Really many at time we had relied on our power and knowledge thereby giving God the back seat. Instead of praying for our leaders we had resorted to criticism, thinking that we can change them through that. May the exposition of God's words transform us to play our part in the government by praying for our leaders.

  12. Dear iopenheavens,
    Good morning.
I guessw sis Yetunde is closing the gap you left open.
Someone like me found her while i was desperately looking for you to download.
The procedure is so tedious, one couldnt even downloAd even when you found d website.
As early as 31 st december 13, we ve been searching, spent more dan 2 hrs on d 1st. So u see, we cant blame sister Yetunde. You guys need to be more efficient on your own side. She provided food for us when we were hungry and that is what matters. That is the question d lord Jesus will ask when he comes according to matthew 25:31-46.
I dont support disobedience but from what we can see, sis Yetunde has done proper referencing now, she is not claiming it to be her own work. U might have to review d copyright laws regarding this devotional.

    2. @Jafo You said it all. I too found this site in my earnest but futile effort to download the app. That site was far from user friendly. Meeting this blog was a relief. Imagine my disappointment to now find an attack on the help that came when there was none else!

  13. Well done sis Yetunde, the Lord is your strength.
Pray now more than ever bf, seek counsel from lawyers if possible, and above all let the HG guide you. You jump over this hurdle successfully in Jesus name. Amen. They seem ready to fight, but Jehovah nissi will help you.

  15. This is grand! Indeed Jehovah rules in the affairs of men... Joseph woke up that day and probably thought it was going to be business as usual but it was the day of his visitation. He was sent for and that call ended his misery...
Dear Father, please, let the messenger that will bring me out of every misery and set me on the pedestal of excellence locate me this season.. Let nations glorify you through me!
