SECRETS OF OVERWHELMING BLESSINGS - 30/01/2014

SECRETS OF OVERWHELMING BLESSINGS - 30/01/2014

Yesterday’s topic was "THE PRESENT HELP IN TIME OF NEED" while today’s message is titled "SECRETS OF OVERWHELMING BLESSINGS" as given by Pastor E. A Adeboye in Open Heavens Devotional (Adeboye, 2014). In today’s message, we have been asked to memorise Deuteronomy 28:1: “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth” and read Proverbs 11:24-25. Our Bible in one year reading for today is taken from 1 Peter 1-4 and Psalm 28 (Adeboye, 2014).

Today’s message is quoted below for our usual discussion. God bless Daddy GO and God bless every one of us as we reflect on the message.

“God wants you to have overwhelming ‘blessings; blessings that you will have and you Will say it is enough. Having such blessings - t e type that God gives, depends on what you hear and on what you see. Also, to be overwhelmingly blessed depends on how you go about acting on what you hear and see. Hearing well, seeing well and doing what you hear and see well depends on God. It is He alone who can give the grace to hear, see and do well. This is why it is very important and urgent too for whosoever wants God's type of blessing which does not include sorrow to be born of God (John 3:3). Indeed God wants you to be the head and not the tail. He wants you to be above the principalities of poverty and all forms of suffering that come with it. In 3 John 2 He said: ”Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth .” It took a long time before some people accepted the truth that God is interested in the prosperity of His children. Many still have not come across or accepted this truth even today.

There are several people today that God wants to bless, but they are not yet ready for the blessing because they have not heard the correct teaching concerning godly blessings as clearly written in Deuteronomy 28. This is just like many people today, who ordinarily would have loved to live holy lives, but because they hear all the time that it does not matter how they live their lives, that once they are born-again they are on their way to heaven, they live a lifestyle that has shipwrecked their faith. What this people are hearing is determining their destination after this life. Beloved, if you have been taught that tithing is an Old Testament practice and you ignore the commandment of God in Malachi 3:10, then you have sentenced yourself to perpetual penury. Know that the condition for God's blessing is diligent obedience to biblical instructions as His eternal truth for all ages. This is why you must hear well and see well in order to do well for God to open His treasury of blessings upon you. This is why every child of God must make sure he or she fellowships in a Bible believing Christian assembly where they will be taught to practice godliness without compromise. My prayer for you is that the truth that will take you to your next level of prosperity will be unfolded to you in Jesus’ Name.” (Adeboye, 2014)

Our prayer point for today is that God should please open our eyes and ears to the secrets of overwhelming blessings in His word and help us to be diligent enough to do accordingly in Jesus Name.

I pray that the Almighty God will open my eyes, and the eyes of everyone that read today’s devotional to see the needed secret that will transform us to a greater height in Jesus name.

  1. It is without contention that there exist laws spoken by God in the old testament which have become voided by the new one. Not a few have expressed genuine and sincere curiousity whether tithing is not one of them. If we must vet all teachings like the noble brethren at Berea , one cannot fail to notice that tithing was never mentioned by the first apostles. Not even at the supreme council of all apostles at Jerusalem, where the cardinal tenets of the faith were enunciated to all gentile believers was tithing refered to(Acts 15). If tithing, as a law of God, is so critical to the new church of Christ, it gives concern that the fathers never alluded to such but rather continued to emphasise on bountiful and cheerful giving to the course of the gospel. Nonetheless, the underlining reasons for giving to God's service are still the same in the new as well as the old dispensations and the law of giving cannot be broken. But has Christ indeed commanded his church to tithe, failing which they incur a curse as projected by the old order? Many are desirous of objective insight into this subject.

    1. Dear Anonymous.
      Thank you for your comment.
Tithing is a controversial topic. But i do not agree that it has gone with the old testament.
According to mathew 23:23, Matthew 23:23
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour never condemned tithing, instead he said that all the other matters of the law should also be taken seriously. One might say he referred to the others as weghtier matters of the law, but he didnt condemn it. If you also check Hebrews 7:7-9
It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham,Paul spoke of it not as in condemning it, 1 cor 9, you will hear Paul speaking that it is not wrong for him to eat or be blessed by his followers material things but he chose not to, he compared this this to his other brethren Cephas and the Lord's brother.
Dear anonynmous, there is so much i could say. The institution of tithing first of all was to ensure that food is in the house of God, by food you could say provision of all kinds for the mLevites who God had instructed never to do any job but to serve him wholeheartedly. If we stop paying tithes now there will surely be no food for thise pastors in the full time ministry, payment of church premises and all it entails to stand etc.
I just know wt the issue of this tithing that God is Alpha n Omega, he knew from the beginning that it would be contentious , thats why he made it a commandment. I just pray that your eyes will be open and your heart will sense this need IJN. U know what i always tell bonafide children of God, what if it smt that could stop u from getting to heaven, wouldnt u do it. Just give the ten percent even if u dont want to call it tithe. The problem is pple find it difficult to give becos of d pressures of life but u know, that ten percent u give doesnt help improve your situation instead it goes on assignment for you because when u do his wwork, he is obliged to do yours too. Lets not be deceived, God is not mocked , whatever we sow, we shall also reap. Ignore pple misusing the tithes, God will ask them (Leviticus 18) not very sure now, pls check.
May the Lord bless you. Im available for more discussion.

    2. Thank you. I accede and concede that the blessing of the tither is same as the bountiful giver. Just as the curse of the non tither is probably same as the reward of a sparing giver. Tithing is likely the minimum credential and cutoff mark for God's bountiful and manifold blessing. I so submit.

Anyone saying that tithing should be paid by Christians is lying and has no biblical basis for such. Its time that we start studying the bible for ourselves to know the truth. How many of those preachers obey all the Mosaic laws? They select those ones that will bring money to them and lay emphasis.

  4. Tnx dear sis for ds blog. I ave bn really blessed by daddy G.o's words and even d comments.God bless u. As long as we can claim the blessings in the old testament (d Abrahamic covenant n all)without drawing d line cos its in d old dispensation, then I would think there re some commandments there dt we shldnt shy away 4m. Jesus christ didn't come 2 void d laws(which was given in d interim)but came 2 give us something better dn strict adherence 2 laws. Any xtian who refuses 2 pay tithe is jst shortchanging himself cos he's refusing 2 appropiate d blessings attached 2 dt commandment. I pray God opens our eyes of undstndin IJN

  10. Faithfulness by all members is a key to family prosperity. The Lord is a member of the family-infact the head. If the rest of family are faithful to Him , He will reveal His faithfulness to them. Keep me faithful Lord in heart and in substance.

  13. Many thanks @Jafo Topsy for the inspiring message concerning tithing. I am a living witness to what tithing can do. When we do it, it works better than magic and when we don't do it, it robs us of so many blessing.

  14. Giving the 10 percents of your income its a great privilege. Some even go to the extreme of giving 90 percents because they are able to see the mystery behind it, and they never lack for once. Our Almighty God is not a beggar. "He says He'll supply our needs according to His riches" so He is rich, He doesn't need your money, if u refuse to give, He'll raise stone on your behalf. The full time Pastor cannot even lack with or without tithe. He is a miracle working God. Just count yourself lucky that you are alive, you have a source of income and you are privileged to give your 10 percents to God.
