Open Heavens Devotional Thursday 3 January 2013. PREVENTING UNPLEASANT SURPRISES By Pastor E. A. Adeboye

PREVENTING UNPLEASANT SURPRISES

Memorise: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord shall enter into the Kingdom of Heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in Heaven. Matthew 7: 21

Read: Genesis 49: 1-4.

Bible in one year Proverbs 8 – 11

Key point:  It is a privilege to have the opportunity to right your wrongs now. Don’t joke with it!.

As crucial as restitution is, some people would want to ask: Why must I restitute? It is essentially because of Heaven. If you want to end your Christian race on earth, you do not need to restitute, but if want to enter into the heavenly planet, then nothing stop you. While studying Genesis 49:1-4 some time ago, I observed that certain things that appeared buried or forgotten were revisited and they had some unpleasant effect on those concerned. When Jacob was about to die, he gathered his children and began to prophesy into their future based on how they had lived. When he started with his firstborn - Reuben, everyone was surprised to hear what he said to him. While Reuben expected the double - portion blessing due to him as Jacob's firstborn, his father told him he will not excel because of the affair he had with his father’s wife back in Genesis 35:22. When Jacob heard of it then, he kept quiet and did nothing about it, until this crucial day when destinies were to be determined. Do you that Reuben could have repented and could have gone to his father for restitution? But he felt that since his was silent about it, he need not do anything about it. But on that crucial day, he got the shock of his life!

Some people think they are going to Heaven but at the gate Heaven, God will tell them that because of certain things they did or failed to do, they will not enter in. That will not be your portion in Jesus name. This is where living a life of secret sin is most dangerous. You commit it and nobody sees you. Worst stilt, you do not report yourself so you are never disciplined but allowed to freely continue to serve. Don't be shocked you will get a shocker on the last day. What have you been doing that nobody knows about? Deal with them today; suffer the shame now so that i will not spring a surprise on you on the last day. Strive to live with a conscience void of offence both to God and to men.
